Six of our members completed their two day British Canoeing Core Coach course this weekend. Thanks to Caroline Carr for instructing them.
Two of the six, Steve Burnett and Koren Doyle, are of course current coaches, but for them to progress to discipline specific coaching under the new British Canoeing system, such as on more difficult whitewater, they needed to complete the Core coach course first.
The other four are Tom Shoulder, Dave West, Lydia Heath-Sargent and Matthew Bown. These four also now need to complete a two day discipline specific course to then qualify as our latest coaches.
Provided the six meet certain commitments to coach for GSCC, their course costs are funded by the club, so if you think you’d like to get into coaching, funding need not be a problem.
