Training 20th April – Nottingham 21st – Why Join PaddleUk

Marathon Training 20th April

Marathon practice on Saturday at 2pm (normal time). Wind looks set to be lower as a High Pressure is forecast. Packing the trailer for Nottingham at the end of the session. All paddlers are responsible for ensuring the right kit is packed. Usual fees apply.

Nottingham Hasler 21st

Nottingham Hasler – Club vests are not required as it is an out of region event. John Handiside is advertising some old boats for sale at the event. All will probably need work doing but he is open to offers.

Why you should join PaddleUk (formally British Canoeing)

PaddleUK is the national governing body for Canoeing, Kayaking and SUP in England. All competitive paddlers (above introductory level) have to be full or youth members of PUK. All our coaches hold Full Membership. They undergo recognised training and hold PUK qualifications which enable them to train and supervise paddlers effectively and safely.

Membership for non-coaching and non-competitive paddlers provides a license to paddle many of England’s waterways with reciprocal deals for paddling in the rest of the UK. Being a member also helps support our sport nationally in conversations with the government, Environment Agency etc.

As a member of GSCC you can be sure that all your activities on club nights and club events using club equipment are fully covered. We can also register you for PUK Associate Membership at no cost which then allows you to take part in low level competition. If you plan to use your own equipment and paddle on many of the waterways in Britain (including the Ancholme) outside the normal club activities you should, legally, have a license which is provided as part of the PUK Full Membership.

PUK have just announced a change to their membership structure from 1st May. There will now be a JOINING FEE for new members on top of the first year subscription BUT……… this will be waived for any Associate Members who wish to transfer to Full Membership. If you intend becoming a full member please speak to Iain (our chair) or Graham (our disciplines officer). With a few details we can register you as an associate member and save you the joining fee.

Remember – to take part in either our club marathon or the upcoming Sprint Regatta on 27th April you must have, at least, Associate Membership.
