Marathon Squad have mixed fortunes at Lincoln.

On a sunny but very windy Sunday a small team of intrepid paddlers went to the Hasler race at Lincoln to get some extra experience against good opposition.

The wind was a particular problem on the Brayford  where gusts could easily catch the paddles.  Sitting around waiting for the start was a nerve wracking experience.

Matilda’s Geoff Sanders event involved 3 laps of the windy and choppy waters of the Brayford and she had to paddle in a much bigger field than previously.  She put in a gritty performance in Division B and came in 4th

The start for the “adult” divisions was delayed and, if anything, the wind got stronger.

Alfie paddled in Division 9 in a large field and finished in a time of under 48 minutes.

Sue and Andrew paddled Division 8 and found the conditions quite challenging, finishing in a slightly slower time than Alfie.

Graham, in Division 7, struggled to keep up with the leaders and went for a “swim” just before the end which resulted in the slowest time of all the Glanford paddlers.

Charles and Conner raced in the Division 8 Doubles race having been promoted at the Brigg event last month.

They had a hard race but led from the start to take first place in the combined Division 8 and 9 race in a time of just over 39 minutes, making them the fastest Glanford boat.

New racing boats have been added to our fleet.

We also collected our two new “Trimmer” racing boats.  These will allow our juniors to move up to full size racing boats when they are ready and will also be suitable for our less experienced adult paddlers.

All our juniors paddlers at Lincoln are now ready to face the challenge of moving up to more competitive boats.  Matilda will be moving into one of the new boats; Alfie is ready for a Pulsar; Connor and Charles are going to try out the Stiletto K2 and Declan is going to start paddling a Lightning.

Our next event in region is at Malton on May 22nd.  We have boats for paddlers of all abilities so why not join us on Tuesdays to give it a try.

Have a chat with me to find out more.
