A busy racing weekend!

We have had a busy weekend in sprint, slalom and marathon!

Sprint

First of all Ellen Woodward competed in her first Paddle-ability 200m sprint and came a very creditable 3rd! And it wasn’t just any sprint event, but the first regatta weekend of the season at The National Watersports Centre in Nottingham featuring Rio medallists!  Click here for a report from British Canoeing.

Thanks goes to coach Steve Burnett for training Ellen and supporting her during the day. Scroll down to see photos of Ellen and click here link to see a video of Ellen’s race.

Slalom

We also had paddlers competing both days of the Oughtibridge slalom near Sheffield. Many congratulations to Lydia Heath-Sargent and Beinn Roberts for getting promoted to division 3. Lydia came first in her class and Beinn second in his.

Also competed were Dan Snow,  Neil Marley, Caitlin Marley, Tom Shoulder, Alisha Hedison, Nicole Allison and Hannah Senior. Scroll down for a photo of some of our slalom paddlers with their medals.

Marathon

Not only were they slalom racing on Saturday, but Lydia and Hannah were training for the Brigg Hasler marathon on Sunday! Hannah paired up with Ellie Beedham in a K2, while Lydia was in a K1 lightning as were Annabel Taylor and Shayla Kitchen. Well done the girls, but where are all the boys?! (Tom was at slalom).

Do you want to try racing?

If you want to join in with the competition side of our club, we also have a canoe polo team and we train all four disciplines on a Tuesday evening at 7:00pm. See any coach for more details.

Ellen was a little nervous at the start. This was a big event to make your debut in!
