CANOE SLALOM COURSE PLANS ANNOUNCED!
Plans for a major development of the River Ancholme have been announced in this week’s Scunthorpe Telegraph on page 24: “Canoe slalom course in £100k river plans”.
The project has been announced by the River Trust and the River Ancholme Users Group. We at GSCC have been working hard behind the scenes with Glanford Boat Club, The Scunthorpe and District Angling Association and Lincsquad to put together this proposal, which has the full support of North Lincs Council and Brigg town Council.
There is still much to be done (including securing the necessary grants), but we are confident that by working together with other river users we can develop the river adjacent to our boathouse into a leisure complex that local people and ourselves can be proud of.
As well as the slalom course (which will also double-up as a polo pitch capable of hosting regional competitions) there will be a rise-and-fall jetty for canoe launching (incorporating space for boat moorings and a fish haven underneath), new fishing pegs, new disabled access, and landscaping.
A copy of the provisional proposed plans can be seen on our boathouse noticeboard.
