The Hasler Series.
The Hasler Trophy is the National Team League Championships for marathon canoeing. Clubs compete within their regional clubs throughout the season to win the right to race at the Hasler Final, held in September each year.
The Hasler Series is named after Herbert “Blondie” Hasler, who led Operation Frankton, a WW2 commando raid in double kayaks on the port of Bordeaux. The story of this raid was made into a 1955 film, The Cockleshell Heroes.
In the Hasler series you are awarded points for your finishing place for the division you are entered in, and the club with the most points at the end of the season wins the right to race in the finals. Most of our paddlers are in division 9, or if under 12, in the Lightning class. Marathon racing distances are:
Division 1,2,3 |
20.4 km, |
|
Division 4,5,6 |
13.2 km, |
|
Division 7,8,9 |
7.2 km, |
|
Lightning U10, U12 |

Our Qualifiers
Individuals can only represent the club if they have competed in three qualifying events. These can be in any region. Our paddlers who have three qualifying events are:
Neil and Caitlin Marley, Jim McCague, Julian and Rebecca Selby, Fred Pattinson, Tom Shoulder, Alison Cooksey, Ellie Beedham, Nicole Allison, Hannah Senior, and Annabel Taylor.
Club Vests
All competing teams at the finals must where club vests, so we are now offering for sale vests in navy and white with your name and our logo on the front and GSCC in red on the back. Cost is £12 for all sizes (XS to XXXL. As a guide, Annabel is XS, Caitlin is Medium, Neil is Large). Any club member can buy a vest, you don’t have to be in the finals squad. Please order through Vicky. The vests are worn OVER your buoyancy aid, so bear that in mind when ordering yours.
