GSCC provide safety cover for big rowing race

Martin, Steve and Dan had a very enjoyable day in the rain as safety cover and on-the-water marshals for the Ancholme Rowing Club “Ancholme Head” race today, further demonstrating the friendly co-operation between river users.
174 boats lined up for the two races and they were expertly marshalled into their correct stating place by the three in canoe and kayak.
It was cold as well as wet, so we had to be vigilant for hypothermia setting in, so Dan had some of the younger crews doing YMCA in their boats as a warm up exercise!
Here’s a photo Martin took of a crew from York who had acquired foil blankets before the race to keep warm while waiting! (so they weren’t four emergency cases!).
