Calder Marathon & Marathon Training

We had a brilliant turnout today of 20 paddlers for the Pennine CRC Calder Hasler Marathon at Mirfield near Huddersfield today (Sunday 15th Oct)  We had some great results which should help our overall Hasler standing. We don’t have the official results or times yet, but we think:

Div 8 K1: Tom Shoulder 1st, Julian Selby 2nd
Div 9 K1: Kev Lovett 2nd
Div 9 C2: Jim McCauge & Dan Snow 1st
Div 9 K2: Caitlin Marley & Nicole Allison 1st, Rebecca Selby & Hannah Senior 2nd, Alisha Hedison & Nikki Broughton 3rd
Lightnings U12 Girls: Ellie Beedham 1st, Issy Parker 2nd, Ellen Woodward 3rd
Lightnings U10 Girls: Annabel Taylor 1st.

We apologise if we have made any errors or missed anyone out.

Do you want to get involved in marathon racing?

We want to build on this years success so we need more U12’s (as our current U12’s have to move up to the adult divisions in 2018). We also welcome any new U10’s and any new over 12’s of course.

The Hasler series takes a winter break now, starting again in April with our own Brigg Marathon. The winter months make it difficult to introduce paddlers to marathon boats, but if we get any relatively mild weekends between now and April we hope to have some outdoor sessions, and as previously announced, we are having Tuesday evening sessions on the river during October.

If you or your children would like to try marathon racing (or slalom racing) please express an interest by emailing our coaching officer Neil Marley, at coaching@gscc-online.com or leave a comment on this message on our Facebook page and we will be in touch with dates for winter training.
