There is a four mile race open to anyone in any type of canoe\/kayak\/paddleboard<\/em><\/strong> and a 2 mile race open to Under 14’s. You don’t have to be an existing member of our racing squad to enter. If you do want to try one of our stable racing boats why not join us on Sunday afternoon 25th October at 2:00pm?
Our marathon rep Graham Simpkin is now taking entries for the race. If you want to enter, or just have a chat about entering. you can email him on disciplines@gscc-online.com <\/a> or see him at the river this Sunday from 1:30pm. Alternatively for more information, chat to Martin Heywood at the pool tonight (or Graham if he is at the pool). If you do not want to paddle please come along to see what it is all about.
We will have refreshments to buy including our famous charity cake stall.
Events like this need volunteers to make them a success. Almost all jobs are “bank-based” so please volunteer if you are able.
p.s. Cakes\/biscuits etc will be needed for the cake stall (see below for more details). Even if you can’t come on the Sunday you could bring down a cake to the pool on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What is the Hasler Series?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Hasler Series and Trophy are named after Major Herbert \u2018Blondie\u2019 Hasler, DSO, OBE, a distinguished royal Marine officer in World War II who famously paddled 85 miles upstream, at night, into occupied France in a successful attempt to blow up enemy shipping and survived to tell the tale. Just a reminder that I will be doing a cake stall\/raffle at our club event on Sunday 1st November. As always any cake donations are always gratefully received. The Hasler season runs annually from 1st September to 31st August<\/strong> of the following year, so our event is in the second Yorkshire region race in new season. Next years Hasler Finals will be at Burton on Trent on October 10th. We are supporting a local charity this year: The Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.<\/em><\/strong> They are raising funds to purchase a second air ambulance for our region. for more information click this link: https:\/\/www.ambucopter.org.uk\/ <\/a>
Half the proceeds from cake sales will go to them. along with proceeds form our other cake stalls we have had this year.
