Derwent Marathon 19th<\/sup> June 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cost is \u00a38 a seat for adult and \u00a35 for youth.  Juniors in the Geoff Sanders race pay \u00a32.50.  To enter you must be either a full British Canoeing member or an Associate Club member.  If you want to be registered as a Club Associate member we need the following information<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Name, gender and date of birth<\/li>
  2. Email address<\/li>
  3. Post code<\/li>
  4. Parental\/guardian permission if  still a youth or junior<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    All our current marathon paddlers with one exception are either full BC members or Club Associate members so we already have their BC numbers on file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You can enter without being a BC member or Associate Member in Division 7 and below but an Event Entry fee of \u00a35 will be payable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Would you like to join the club at the Hasler Finals?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Hasler Series and Trophy are named after Major Herbert \u2018Blondie\u2019 Hasler<\/a>, DSO<\/a>, OBE<\/a>, a distinguished Royal Marines<\/a> officer in World War II who famously paddled 85 miles upstream, at night, into occupied France in a successful attempt to blow up enemy shipping and survived to tell the tale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Finals, this year, will be held at Runnymede on the Thames and, to qualify to attend a club must do well in the regional competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Finals don\u2019t take place until the autumn but it already looks like GSCC will qualify as the top club in our region. We are still waiting for the official results of the Malton marathon but I think we did well enough to stay at the top of the league table.  The clubs decision whether or not to go to the Finals will depend on the number of paddlers who would like to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Paddlers must complete at least three events during the season (1st<\/sup> September to 31st<\/sup> August).  The events have to be completed in the same type of boat (Kayak or Canoe) and, to be able to take part in K1 singles you must have completed at least three events in K1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Our current position is that Neil, Wayne, Andrew, Martin, Susan, Alfie and Dave have all completed at least three events in K1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Connor and Charles have qualified to compete in K2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Lydia and Graham have 2 events in kayaks.  Graham has one K1, one K2 and one C2 entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Jess, Tom, Owen, Ollie W. and Shane all have one K1 event to their names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Derwent Marathon on 19th<\/sup> June is the LAST<\/strong> event in our region this season but there are still a few other events on the calendar to which you could travel to get your three races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    June 11th<\/sup> \u2013 Burton, Royal and Bradford on Avon<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    June 26th<\/sup> \u2013 Oxford and Gailey<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    July 10th<\/sup> \u2013 Bishops Stortford and Shropshire<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    July 17th<\/sup> \u2013 Wadebridge and Southampton<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    July 24th<\/sup> \u2013 Thames Valley and Trentham<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    July 31st<\/sup> \u2013 Tewkesbury<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Most of these are \u201cdown south\u201d but Burton, Gailey and Trentham are within 2 \u00bd hours drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Unfortunately I won\u2019t be at the Derwent marathon so will have to persuade Sue to have a day away somewhere if I want to qualify for the Finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    NOTE \u2013 there will also be Geoff Sanders races at the Finals but they are not part of the main competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
