We would like to invite you to the grand opening <\/em>o<\/em>f a new jetty outside <\/em>o<\/em>f our boathouse behind the Ancholme Leisure Centre. This will be held at 11am on <\/a><\/em>Sunday <\/a><\/em>29th March<\/a><\/em>. The <\/em>new jetty has been funded by North Lincolnshire council community grant, Brigg Town council, Scawby Parish council and members of Glanford and <\/em>Scunthorpe<\/em> Canoe Club.

The launch coincides with our British Canoeing’s Yorkshire & Humber Region Hasler Marathon, that GSCC are hosting <\/em>on Sunday 29th March<\/a><\/em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hasler series is a club competition open to all abilities with 10 divisions of over 12’s to adult, and 2 divisions of under 12’s. The top two clubs in the region go through to the national finals in London. It is names after Herbert George Hasler who<\/em>is most famous for leading the ‘<\/em>Cockleshell heroes<\/em><\/strong>‘ in Operation Frankton, a daring commando raid on the French port of Bordeaux in December 1942<\/a> using canoes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the first race of the year and we are expecting entries from several Yorkshire based clubs, as well as some “out of region” clubs like Lincoln. Along with a good showing of local paddlers, there should be a good sized audience.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
