We are currently in second place behind Pennine CC. To have s chance of beating Pennine in this race, we need at least 12 paddlers over 12 years old. Lightnings (U12 is a separate event). So:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 We need Over 12\u2019s to adult kayakers in K1 and K2<br \/>\n\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 We need Over 12\u2019s to adult canoeists in c1 and C2<br \/>\n\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 We need U12\u2019s Lightnings<\/p>\n<p>It is in East Yorkshire, between Hull and Driffield, so not far to travel. There is car parking available at the Wharf on grass, please be considerate of other users of this venue when parking. Please let the organiser know if you need\u00a0<strong>reserved accessible parking. On-site parking on the field may be restricted in case of prior rain.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\">The Event<\/h3>\n<p>The event will consist of a marathon and a fun race, including a Lightning Division.<br \/>\nThe races will be run in accordance with the BC Marathon Committee rules.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\">Marathon &#8211; Group A Races<\/h3>\n<p>Division 1-3 singles. 3\/4 pairs &#8211; 12 miles.<br \/>\nDivision 4-6 singles. 5\/6 pairs &#8211; 8 miles.<br \/>\nDivision 7-9 singles. 7\/8 &amp; 9 pairs &#8211; 4 miles.<br \/>\nDivision 10 singles \u2013 U12 paddlers \u2013 4 miles. This is a new division from September 2018.<br \/>\nAll ranking paddlers should wear their club colours \u2013 a plain coloured T-shirt is acceptable.<\/p>\n<h3>Fun Event &#8211; Group B Races (3 Miles)<\/h3>\n<p>Division 12 &#8211; Junior Fun Race (Under 18 years, as at 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0January 2018).<br \/>\nDivision 13 &#8211; Senior Fun Race (Over 18 years).<br \/>\nDivision 14 &#8211; Non-racing double or open canoe.<br \/>\nDivision 15 \u2013 SUP boards \u2013 distance to be notified<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\"><strong>Group C Races<\/strong><strong>\u00a0(2 Miles)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Division 11a &#8211; Lightning Race (under 10 &amp; under 12 years, age at 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0January 2018)<br \/>\nDivision 11b \u2013 Hody K2 Race (under 10 &amp; under 12 years, age at 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0January 2018)<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\">Entry Fees<\/h3>\n<p>\u00a35.00 \u2013 18 years and over (Group A Races) per seat<br \/>\n\u00a34.00 \u2013 Under 18\u2019s &amp; all fun paddlers per seat<br \/>\n\u00a32.50 \u2013 for U12\u2019s in Lightning K1 and Hody K2 per seat<\/p>\n<p>Cheques payable to Kingston Kayak Club please<br \/>\nEntries can be e-mailed or phoned to me, and can be paid for on the day.<br \/>\n<strong>Please enter in advance if possible. Entries on the day of the race will incur a late entry fee of \u00a31 in addition to the relevant entry fee.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BC\/ICF Cards (comprehensive) are required for all paddlers in Group A races\/division 1-10 inclusive. Juniors whose club has a registered youth section affiliated to the BCU may use their<br \/>\nPaddlepower number. If unable to prove membership of BC\/ICF an\u00a0<strong>additional fee of \u00a35<\/strong>\u00a0will be charged on the day for a BC event ticket.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\">Check-in time<\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"null\">11.00am \u2013 11.30am on Sunday 7th October 2018. Race briefing at 11.30am<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\">Race Start Time<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\">12 noon: 12 mile, 8 mile &amp; 4 mile followed by Lightning\u2019s (2 miles) and Fun Race (3 miles).<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Prizes<\/h3>\n<p>Prize giving will take place as soon as possible after all paddlers have finished the race.<br \/>\nMedals will be awarded to 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a02<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0&amp; 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0in each division, where there are sufficient competitors in that division. Paddleability, ladies and junior competitors will be recognised. All entrants will receive a certificate.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Access to the water<\/h3>\n<p>Paddlers may launch from the Wharf or the access steps at the end.\u00a0 Access north of the bridge is not permitted.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Buoyancy Aids<\/h3>\n<p>Personal flotation devices must be worn by all paddlers in Divisions 7 \u2013 15 inclusive. For juniors racing in higher divisions, the use of buoyancy aids will be at their team managers\u2019 and parents\u2019 discretion.<br \/>\nThe Race organiser reserves the right to insist that all competitors wear buoyancy aids in the case of adverse water or weather conditions.<\/p>\n<h3>Numbers on Boats<\/h3>\n<p>Paddlers in Divisions 1 \u2013 8 should use the approved white number plates.<br \/>\nPaddlers in Divisions 9 \u2013 15 should display their number clearly on their boat, either by using tape, or collect a laminated number card from the control point. (Please return these after use!)<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Starting Order<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nThe start time for the first division will be at 12 noon, the order of starting being from Division 1, through to 15. Please bear in mind that there may not be any paddlers in the higher divisions, therefore please be prepared to start your race from midday.<br \/>\nPaddlers should assemble on the water upstream of the start, and will be called forward to the starting line, by division.<br \/>\nWhen numbers have been checked, the starter will begin your race with the words \u201c<strong>READY, GO\u201d<\/strong>. It is your responsibility to be at the start on time.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\"><strong><u>Rules of the River<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>There are no portages for this event. However other craft may be using the waterway. Paddlers will need to be able to cope with the wash and bow waves from these boats. Please paddle on the\u00a0<strong>right side of the river (River right rule)<\/strong>, and be courteous to other water users, fishermen etc.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\">Turns<\/h3>\n<p>All turns should be made, in an anti-clockwise direction, after passing the marshal with the flag. The turn for the 3-mile race will be denoted by a red flag. A blue flag for the 4-mile race, green for the 8-mile race, and yellow for the 2-mile Lightning race.<\/p>\n<h3>Finishing<\/h3>\n<p>Paddlers should pass the finish line in their kayak\/canoe.<\/p>\n<h3>Safety<\/h3>\n<p>Paddlers of all ages and abilities are very welcome to take part in this event, however individual clubs should ensure that their paddlers are appropriately equipped, and suitably experienced to participate in the race. If it is deemed necessary that an individual requires support paddlers, this should be provided by the individual\u2019s club wherever possible. It is the responsibility of Team Leaders and\/or the individual to consider and check whether competitors are properly equipped for the race: taking into account the paddler\u2019s fitness, ability, the course and the prevailing conditions. Any medical condition(s) that may affect a competitor&#8217;s ability to race safely must be declared to the race organisers at check-in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you see someone in difficulty or who has capsized, please stop to offer them help and provide assistance if requested to do so. Ensure they can cope with the situation well enough to get out of the water before moving on.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kingston Kayak Club and its nominated officials cannot be held responsible for any loss of life, injury or damage to equipment however caused.<\/p>\n<h3>Results<\/h3>\n<p>Times will be posted at the check-in point after the race has finished. If you require a copy of these, please send an S.A.E. to the race organiser, or your e-mail address. Divisions 1 \u2013 11 will be available on the British Canoeing Marathon Results site.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Toilet Facilities and general litter<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nThese are chemical toilets in Portaloos. Please leave toilets as you find them. Please take all litter home with you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cCanoeing and kayaking are \u201cAssumed risk\u201d \u2013 \u201cWater contact sports\u201d that may carry attendant risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 British Canoe Statement.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Above all, have a safe and enjoyable day, Happy Paddling!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>GDPR<\/strong>\u00a0Use of entry data is classed as \u201creasonable use\u201d, and by entering a race a paddler may be considered to have given consent for the data submitted to be used for the calculation and publication of results and rankings. Kingston Kayak Club will not be seeking further consent for using the data in the prescribed way. Team leaders submitting entries for their club(s) should have individual consents in accordance with BC&#8217;s guidance &amp; Tool Kit on GDPR. KKC will only hold this data until it is passed, in HRM result files, to the RMA and race records officer. The Race Result data showing Name, Club, Finish Time, Placing and Division (with promotion\/demotion indicated) may be published and held on KKC\u2019s website and social media sites until the Race Result data has been published by MRC.
