The dead pony that we spotted in the new river by the railway bridge on New Years Day has been removed from the river.
Members of GSCC with help from Glanford Boat Club (who provided the boat), assisted GW Lords of Gainsborough (https://www.gwlord.co.uk/) in towing the carcass to GBC’s slipway where it was loaded into a lorry and taken for incineration.
The cost has been borne by the Ancholme Rivers Trust (ART) which represents all river users. Thanks to Dan and Martin from GSCC, John from GBC, Phil from GW Lord and Gail at ART
We considered the carcass to be a health hazard to our members with the new river season starting in only two months and there was no guarantee it would be washed away or decay in time.
I’ve decided not to post photographs of the removal.
