Don’t forget these fantastic events in October!:

Saturday 1st October: An Introduction to Moving Water

We are having a Moving Water day on Saturday 1st October. The venue is the River Ure at Sleningford Mill Caravan and Camp Site, North Stainley, Ripon, North Yorkshire. This caravan and camping site is right on the river bank so you can stay Friday night if you want, though most will be travelling on the day.

This day is open to all  that have paddled with us previously, and are comfortable wearing a spraydeck. The river caters for all abilities, with a still pool at the bottom of the site, gentle rapids and a slightly more difficult section for paddlers with a little more experience.

Please note however, that the River Ure has a large catchment area and can rise to high and fast levels, so we reserve the right to cancel the session, for some or all of the paddlers. The senior coaches will assess the river and make this decision on the day.

Should the river be in spate, there is a canal in Ripon we can paddle on.

Please note that if you are taking your own kit, your boat must have airbags in the rear. All paddlers are also requested to wear long legged clothing, no shorts.

Sunday 2nd October: Wolfreton Marathon

Kingtson Kayak Club (Hull) are hosting the Wolfreton Mararthon at North Frodingham near Driffield. We are supporting this event so would like to get as many members there as possible. There are divisional races , lighning races and funraces, so anyone can enter in any type of boat. A race description can be downloaded by clicking here to go to KKC’s webpage for the event.

Thursday 6th October: Torchlit Fancy Dress Paddle

Don’t miss our annual end-of-river-season Fancy Dress Torchlit Paddle! Dress up yourself and your boat however you like (but keep it safe, you still need your buoyancy aid!) and finish off with lots of lights (don’t forget your head torch!).

Please be at the river for our normal start time of 6:00pm, but don’t forget to allow plenty of time to decorate your boat. We will have judging on the bank before the paddle starts. There might even be a prize! Then we’ll  paddle upstream past the railway bridge and return in the dark!!

Then it’s BBQ time outside the boathouse! (If you want BBQ food, please add your name to the list in the boathouse or post in the event on our facebook page).

Saturday 8th October: Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT)

We are running a Foundation Safety and Rescue Training course (FSRT) on Saturday 8th October on the River Ancholme. This course is a pre-requisite for anyone who wants to do their Level 1 Coaching award, but it is also useful for any one who wants to be better equipped to rescue yourself and your friends.

It is open to anyone 16 and over, but priority will be given to members who do want to move on to coaching (we need more coaches!). Places are limited, but if demand is high we will put on another course at a later date. For more details see Julian Selby who is our qualified course provider. The cost will be confirmed later, but we are much cheaper than you can do it elsewhere.

Saturday 8th October: Boat Cleaning

Saturday 8th October is also our first pool session, so we need to deep clean all the boats, paddles and decks that we will be using in the pool. Volunteers are invited to help with the boat cleaning during the day. Please see any coach for more details.
