Last January we ran beginners freestyle sessions (also known as playboating) at the deep end alongside our normal pool session. Peter Heywood (Martin’s son) travelled over from Sheffield each Saturday to run the sessions.
We are proposing to do the same again in January of February 2026. Places are very limited so first of all we need to know who is interested and which month you can attend. Peter can then choose the best month to come over.
Please reply to this email or on our Facebook/Messenger pages if you would like to participate, indicating January, February or Both.
Please note that replying to this message is NOT a booking!
Ideally you need to be able to roll but it is not essential.ย If you can’t roll a good tee or paddle rescue is essential. The only other limitation is we only have a few different sized playboats, though we do have two new small ones we bought last year, ideal for youngsters.
In freestyle kayaking, paddlers perform tricks on stationary water features like standing waves, holes, or eddy lines. These features act like nature’s playground, allowing kayakers to surf, spin, flip, and perform a variety of exciting moves. Beginnerย moves can be learnt and practiced in the pool environment.
