Seven of our intrepid marathon squad took the short trip to the Lincoln Hasler Marathon to test their mettle against paddlers from across the Midlands. Official results will not be available for a few days but we can report that the team put in a sterling performance to show just what Yorkshire Region paddlers are capable of.

Louie excelled in Division 6 to gain a worthy 3rd place – he was not far behind the Div 5 paddlers. Promotion should be coming soon.

Karl, Graham, John and Sue fought it out in Division 7. Karl was about a minute in front at the turn but then stopped to help a young paddler from Nottingham who had capsized. Graham fought tooth and nail with a paddler from Burton Phoenix – Graham finished about a boat length behind. John and Sue came in a short while later. Karl was awarded the first place after a time adjustment with Graham in 3rd place. Karl could well be promoted after this effort.

Phil and Mike represented us in Div 9. Phil stormed ahead, overtaking some of the higher division paddlers to win and, again, this performance may lead to promotion. Mike looked and felt much more comfortable than in his first race and saw his time improve significantly.

We don’t have any photos of the racing as we were all too busy on the water but here are some photos from the Prize Giving.

Our next race is at Malton next Sunday when we hope to take a bigger team and “thrash” the opposition!
