A Grand Day Out for our intrepid marathon paddlers. 13 of us travelled over to Manvers Lake to test our marathon skills on a different type of water. This year the wind was much calmer and the racing didn’t need to be abandoned half way through. The Official Results are not yet available but we had a day full of successes and came away as TOP CLUB again.

Charles, in his first Div 5 race, finished within two minutes of Blake. Connor doggedly wash-hung the Division 6 doubles boat all the way round the course to win Div 6 singles only a few seconds behind Charles. Louie also practised his wash-hanging skills for the first half of the race before roaring past Matt to gain 2nd in Div 6

Div 7, 8 and Div 8 doubles all set off together. Sue and Graham in their double canoe led the way but were unable to turn around buoys as well as the K1s and so slowly fell behind Martin, who won Div 7 and John who won Div 8. John’s performance would have gained him promotion to Div 7 if there had been more people in his race.

In Div 9, Craig held on to the leader to gain second place and secure promotion to Div 8 (pending review). Mike and Hazel ploughed around in their plastic boats to come in 5th and 6th. Phil decided to chance his arm in a racing boat and survived on waters unlike the Ancholme to finish 7th in just under the hour.

Matilda and Declan battled it out in the Geoff Sanders race. This was Declan’s first race in Division A and he finished just half a minute behind Matilda.

If you would like to try marathon racing – come and join our training sessions on Tuesday or ask for a personal come-and-try on a Thursday.
