MARATHON SQUAD DAY OUT AT DRAKEHOLES – sorry no pictures.

The core squad had a great day on the Chesterfield Canal covering 10km in about 90 minutes including wash hanging, sprinting and leisurely social paddling.

Sue and Matilda took the racing C2 and saw a kingfisher and a swimming grass snake. The rest of us were in K1s and saw a paddleboarder, two plastic boaters and a couple of barges plus another unidentified swimming body!

At the end we all sat down in the sunshine (under our new gazebo) for a picnic at the canal basin. Matilda persuaded Dad to try the C2 and they stayed upright. Charles and Connor also gave the C2 a try. Alfie tried a less stable boat and demonstrated how not to get out – twice.

This coming Tuesday we will have Sprints at the club then there will be no formal pointy boat sessions until the end of the summer holidays. Any paddling will be on an ad hoc basis.
In September we will be concentrating on our preparation for the Hasler Finals on the Thames on Sept 25th.
