Message from our Health & Safety Officer, David Riley

In view of the current situation regarding the Coronavirus and its spread, can I make you all aware of the current advice issued through British Canoeing:

British canoeing are happy still for events and training sessions to continue so long as a number of very simple rules are followed.

Firstly, if anyone has flu-like symptoms, they should avoid the risk of spreading their infection, whatever that infection may be, by staying at home and recovering. Do not come to the training session or event. If you are booked in for a session, if you can let us know that you are not attending for this reason that would be helpful.

Secondly, GSCC has always promoted good hand hygiene after a river session, this is particularly important at this time. We have some antiseptic gel and a small sink that can be used for handwashing. If paddlers can bring some hand cleaner or wipes with them to clean themselves and any equipment, like paddles, they have used that would be appreciated.

British Canoeing and the Government have stressed that physical activities should go ahead as normal, I suspect that this is because fit individuals seem less affected by the virus currently.

Thank you for your co-operation.
David Riley
