Summer River Sessions, May to October
River sessions in May are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. These sessions are for all, including beginners. On Tuesdays, we are providing only these courses:
Paddlepower passport and Discovery for youngsters. The sessions start at 6:00pm so please be there at 5:30 if possible to get kitted up.
On Thursdays, we are providing these courses:
Paddlepower passport and Discovery for youngsters and BCU star awards for adults, in kayak and canoe. There may also be the opportunity to try specific disciplines like sprint and polo. Please note that these sessions start at a different time: 6:30pm, so please be there at 6.00 if possible to get kitted up.

Saturday 23rd May: The Ancholme River Festival
This is the second river festival and is even bigger and better this year. We have joined up with our local rowers, fisherman, pleasure boaters and walkers to provide a full day of water based activities, and the festival also coincides with Brigg Farmers Market. We are providing the following activities:
- Ergo challenge, this is running all day, and is open to club members and the general public
- Slalom Challenge, open to club members only.
- Go Canoeing try it session, open to family & friends of paddlers and the public (part of National Go Canoeing Week)
To take part in the slalom challenge, on a course set up in Brigg town centre next to the County Bridge, please enter using the form in the boathouse or by emailing us. The event is open to all club members, regardless of experience, and will run early afternoon (extact times to be confirmed).
The Go Canoeing sessions are at 1:30pm and 2:45pm. Booking is not essential, but if you think you have family and friends who want a go, please let us know in advance if you can.
Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th June: Slalom Race
Moving water slalom competition at Cardington, Bedford. Ideal for all our paddlers who have been to Sleningord (Tanfield) at least once and great for beginners at slalom. The course is set in a nice country park, with camping avaialble. For more information contact our slalom rep, Neil Marley, at slalom@gscc-online.com
Sunday 21st June: Club Slalom and Sprint
This is an all day event for club members only. There will be a slalom course set up on the ancholme and the sprint race over a short distance will be run close by. More details to follow later.
Sunday 5th July: Club Flat Water Day Trip
On a canal or river, to be decided, but probably not the Ancholme. More details to follow later.
Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th July: Slalom Race
Moving water slalom race at Howsham Weir near York. Ideal for all our paddlers who have been to Sleningord (Tanfield) at least once. For more information contact our slalon rep, Neil Marley, at slalom@gscc-online.com
Saturday 12th September: Moving water training day
This is a moving water training day open for all, on the River Ure at Sleningford Mill. This is a one day event but you are welcome to stay at the campsite Friday and/or Saturday evenings. Book your pitch with the campsite.
Thursday 1st October: Fancy Dress and Torchlit Paddle
This is our end of summer river season fancy dress and torchlit paddle.
