NO Marathon Training Saturday 10th August – Sudbury to the Sea

There is NO Marathon Training Saturday 10th August

On Tuesday we will paddle if we can (the river is weeding up). If we can’t get on its shore based training.

Sudbury to the Sea 14 & 15th September

Please note this is NOT a GSCC supported event.
This is a two day river trip along the river Stour in East Anglia that club member Andrew Lawson has done before. He says “I’ve done it a couple of times previously – once solo and once with Marie in our tandem kayak. The scenery along the River Stour is absolutely beautiful.  Paddling can be a bit challenging in places – e.g. some narrow channels though the reeds, some shallow sections where we scraped along the bottom, and the need to dodge swimmers and oblivious folk in hired rowing boats on one very popular section, but it’s well worth the effort. It’s also fun doing something like this with a couple of hundred other paddlers.  There are proper portage facilities around the weirs, although a couple of the weirs are shootable.

It’s probably best tackled in touring kayaks or Canadian canoes, but we saw all sorts of craft when we were there, including several people on SUPs, though the SUPs were much less in evidence on the 2nd day.

If anyone is interested, I’m happy for them to contact me for more info.”
