I have uploaded several albums of brilliant photos taken by Rachel Marley to our Facebook page (click on icon below) from the moving water weekend. These feature several of our mainly younger members paddling through the “stopper” at Sleningford for the first time.

They have been sorted by Rachel by the paddlers name. I have tagged only the first photo of each set (and only those who I can tag). Please feel fee to tag the rest.

They will be loaded onto our website later, when I have finished sorting all the photos. (still a lot to go through!)

A few photos from this weekend are now on our Facebook page, but there are lots to sort this year so the rest will be on our Facebook page and website soon. If you have photos or videos you would like me to include please send me your email address and I will send you back a Dropbox link to upload them too. Alternatively, bring them to the river on a memory stick this Tuesday or Thursday. Please do a preliminary edit, removing blurred and duplicates.

We had another brilliant weekend at Tanfield with 38 paddlers on the water, including the coaches! Thanks to all who helped make this weekend a success: that is all the coaches, my caterers, family and Friends. and of course the paddlers. Saturday 30th April & Sunday 1st May

An Introduction to moving water

We are having our first weekend away of 2016 this May Day Bank Holiday weekend! The venue is the River Ure at Sleningford Mill Caravan and Camp Site, North Stainley, Ripon, North Yorkshire. This caravan and camping site is right on the river bank and we have full access to the river all weekend! Why not book in for Friday and stay for Bank holiday Monday?

This weekend is open to all, that is those who have paddled with us previously, and those newcomers who have attended the pool sessions this winter. The river caters for all abilities, with a still pool at the bottom of the site, gentle rapids and a slightly more difficult section for paddlers with a little more experience.

Please note however, that the River Ure has a large catchment area and can rise to high and fast levels, so we reserve the right to cancel any or all of the sessions, for some or all of the paddlers. The senior coaches will assess the river and make this decision on the day.

Should the river be in spate, there is a canal in Ripon we can paddle on, or there is always Lightwater Valley fun park which is only a few miles away!
●    Instructed by our own BCU qualified coaches.
●    Use of club Equipment. (While stocks last!).
●    No fees for instruction, all you pay are your caravan and camping fees.
●    Covered by club insurance (3rd party liability only).
●    2 days paddling, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 15:00, or just come for the day. THERE IS NO CLUB PADDLING ON MONDAY
●    See any club official for further details.
●    Please book your caravan or tent pitch directly with the campsite: www.sleningfordwatermill.co.uk

Add your name to the list on our notice board at the pool to reserve your club equipment and so we have an idea of who is going, and please book early!

The use of club boats is free, on a first-come-first served base, but can everyone please make their own arrangements for transporting the kit to the venue!

Changing River! And here are some photos showing how the river can change. Two are on Saturday and two are from the same viewpoint on Sunday!

Jul 27

Our next Moving Water Day is on Saturday 12th September!

Our next moving water day is Saturday 12th September, starting at 10:30 am. at Sleningford Mill, River Ure, North Yorkshire.

There is no cost to club members for the coaching or the use of club kit (first-come-first-served for kit), other than your fuel costs and any accommodation costs. It is just over an hours drive from Scunthorpe, so it can be done as a day trip.

This is the same venue as the event we ran last Easter, which was really popular. You can see photos here and here showing the venue and the fun we had!

We sometimes call this a whitewater day, and you may hear the coaches saying that, but please do not be put off by the word “whitewater”! This day is open to all paddlers who are comfortable wearing a spraydeck and have demonstrated they can capsize wearing one. Please talk to a coach if you are unsure of your, or your child’s, suitability to attend. Please note also that this river can rise quickly after heavy rain in which case it can be unsuitable for beginners, so we cannot guarantee that you will be able to paddle (though usually the problem is not enough water!). It is at the coaches discretion whether paddling will take place or not and their decision is final.

If you are going, why not make a weekend of it? Sleningford Mill is a caravan and campsite right next to the moving water section of the river. Some of us will be going up Friday night and leaving Sunday morning (no club paddling on Sunday morning though), so book a pitch now! Please book your pitch direct with the campsite: www.sleningfordwatermill.co.uk

And finally, if you are attending, please remember to add your name to the list in our boathouse and tick the box for any club kit you wish to borrow. It is the borrower’s responsibility to transport the kit they borrow, including boats, to the venue (or arrange the transport of it).
