New Under 18s Policy for Members

Dear Member

Glanford and Scunthorpe Canoe Club Ltd are introducing an U18 Policy for attending without a parent/carer being present.

The policy allows U18s to participate unattended but only when an informal or formal agreement is in place.

The club strongly encourages that all u18s to attend activities with a parent/carer embracing family involvement.

Informal agreement

Safeguarding is crucial to the club, GSCC preferred method of supervision is for the parent/carer to have an informal arrangement with another known trusted family friend (over 18), who takes on this responsibility. This arrangement needs to be made known to the bookings officer or organising coach on arrival

Formal agreement

To allow young people aged 14 to their 18th birthday to attend the boathouse without their parent/carer being present, thus supporting the independence of the young person

Where an informal agreement is not possible, a formal agreement is required. This is agreed by signing on to the policy by all parties. In certain circumstances GSCC may not accept or may withdraw acceptance, this will be discussed on an individual basis and in confidence.

Whilst on the river, safeguarding supervision remains with the coach who have the necessary Safeguarding training and Disclosure and Barring Service clearance in place.
