We had a fantastic day on the Ancholme with the Brigg Hasler Marathon last Sunday, 22nd April. We had 65 paddlers taking part in our Yorkshire Region Hasler event from 9 different clubs, and enjoyed excellent weather and excellent racing! Thanks to everyone for attending and to the organisers at GSCC for putting on a great event.

We had some notable results: Dan Walker won Div 7 K1 with a time of 34:33 and Tom Shoulder won div 8 K1 with a time of 39:42. We were well represented in div 9 K1 with 6 paddlers in a field of 15, with 4th and 5th places for Martin Heywood and Alison Cooksey respectively.
In the Lightnings K1 class, in the U12 Girls we had 3 paddlers with Lydia Heath-Sargent taking 2nd place in her first marathon. Annabel Taylor has moved up from the U10’s which she dominated last season and was a creditable 3rd. Shayla Kitchen, in her first ever race, was 4th.
Most of our U12 girls from last year now paddle in div 9, and they paired up to paddle in K2’s. We were very strong in this event fielding all five crews in the race! The pairing of Nicole Allison and Caitlin Marley came out on top with a time of 40:26.
We also had 3 young paddlers racing for the first time: James Finch in div 9, Emily Finch in U10 Girls and Travis Bush in the U10 Boys.
