Our first flat water trip of the summer is on the Driffield Canal on Sunday 19th June. We haven’t paddled this section before as a club, but coach Steve Maltby has paddled it many times and says it is a pleasant trip.
We will be taking several canoes, but not everyone can go in a canoe, so you can take your normal kayak. It would help us if you can transport the boat yourself as coaches will have limited space to take other boats as well as their own.
So we know how many boats we need, you must add your name to the list in the boathouse (or reply to this email) if you want to borrow a boat. If you want a canoe, say who you will be paddling it with, but it will be at the coaches discretion as to the whether you can paddle it without an experienced canoeist in the back. Some coaches will be taking their own canoes so will have space for one or two others each.
We will meet in our boathouse in the morning (time to be confirmed) to collect boats and kit. We will then drive to Driffield (in East Yorkshire across the Humber) and paddle downstream for approx 3 hours. We will then have a picnic before driving the car drivers back to Driffield to get the cars (we will leave one car at the get-out on the way to Driffield). |
