Newsletter No 7

Here’s what’s in this newsletter:

Kit for our Moving Water Weekend

If you have put your name on the list to borrow a boat and other equipment for this weekend, please remember to collect it after this Thursday’s river session.

If you cannot make it to the boathouse on Thursday, please contact us and we will TRY to make other arrangements, and if you are struggling to transport a boat one of our members has LIMITED space in his van and has offered to take some boats. Please contact us only if you have no other means of getting a boat to the venue.

IMPORTANT!! The venue have asked that a parent or responsible adult remains on site during our coached sessions. This is for their insurance purposes. GSCC will have contact details for next of kin for all paddlers, but we request that barring emergencies a parent or responsible adult does remain on site. Parents may take responsibility for a friend’s child, with that child’s parent’s agreement.

Please remember that although there is no charge from GSCC for equipment or coaching, there are river fees to be paid to the site management. These are to be paid directly to the site at their reception on arrival.

Discipline Coaching

Starting in May we are offering discipline coaching on Tuesday evenings immediately after the normal Tuesday session. This means the regular Tuesday session will continue to be from 6:00 to 7:00 and the discipline coaching will be 7:10 to 8:10. (our regular Thursday night sessions will move to a 6:30 start from May onward). We are offering coaching in sprint, marathon, slalom and polo and this is part of our long term plan to encourage the competitive aspect of our sport and to improve the river environment and facilities.

Cost of the sessions will be £5, but should a paddler be already on a regular GSCC coached session this fee will be reduced to £2.

Please support these sessions as we will be able to use them as evidence when we are submitting funding applications for the river project. To book your place (spaces are limited) please contact the bookings officer.

Ancholme River Festival Saturday 28th May

For the third year we are supporting the Ancholme River Festival in Brigg Market place and on the river at the rowing club boathouse. We will have the ergos in the market place and will be running a Go-Canoeing session throughout the day for beginners, so if you have any family or friends who want a go, this is for them! During the day you can also try rowing with our friends at the Ancholme Rowing Club, who’s facilities we will be using on the day.

HELP WANTED! We will require volunteers to help the coaches run these events, especially with the booking in and the ergos. Please contact Pete Keel (building@gscc-online.com) if you can help, and helpers get the first chance to grab a ticket for Glanford Boat Club’s hog roast in the evening!
